Jimmy Prater began his career working for Don Foss Used Cars in Lansing, Michigan. Don Foss is the founder of CAC™ (Credit Acceptance Corporation) and the owner of CARite™, a nationwide network of car dealers. Like any professional tradesman, Jimmy wasn’t allowed to wait on a customer until he learned Don’s step by step sales tactics. Mr. Prater attributes his success to his mentors and predecessors who taught him winning procedures in the car business. Darla Libel, his sales manager at La Brea Chevrolet in Los Angeles, CA. Taught him how to desk deals and now Jimmy shares her talents with others. He picked up his one of a kind closing skill from a brilliant Mexican immigrant, Mr. Juan Garcia, while working at Metro Ford in North Hollywood, CA and still to this day thanks Juan for taking him under his wing. These are just a few of the people that influenced Mr. Prater in the car business. Overtime, and from many others, Jimmy Prater has taken everything he’s learned from people he respected in the auto industry and poured it into a melting pot. Mixed with Jimmy Prater’s own style, any client dealer's process can be worked to create success, no matter what condition he finds it in.
Mr. Prater entered the world of imports while living in California. This was swimming in different waters because Jimmy, growing up in Michigan was tailored to sell domestic automobiles. He enjoyed the Southern California fast paced car selling style. Jimmy Prater understands dynamic selling techniques in different markets. Mr. Prater hung his sales license and managed a Honda and Toyota store in the Los Angeles area.
Jimmy Prater developed a step-by-step closing process and can train any willing person how to close a car deal. He also came up with a desking process that helps salespeople sell more cars and make bigger commissions. Mr. Prater believes customer’s feed off energy; if customers aren’t smiling and laughing their not buying. Processes in every step of the way in a sale, helps ease tension on the sales floor and customers will be more relaxed when buying.
